How To Earn CPD Points

The purpose of continuous professional development (CPD) is to ensure that a professional director remains up to date with the latest developments in corporate governance, changes in applicable legislation, and any other aspects that a person needs further development on.


The benefit of participating in annual CPD is that you ensure you remain effective when fulfilling your roles and responsibilities as a director, but also that you maintain your competence as a CD(SA) or Cert.Dir professional.


As per the IoDSA CPD policy, CPD can be earned in any of the following 5 categories:

Combine these activities to earn 30 CPD points every year

Professional work-based activities

Such as serving as a director

New director mentoring

Either as a mentor or mentee

Personal activities

Activities outside work such as committee participation, lecturing or presenting

Courses, seminars and conferences

In person or digital

Self-directed learning

Relevant reading
