Job Title: Manager: Legal Services and Member Discipline Reports To: Executive: Operations and Business Supports Based At: Grayston Ridge Office Park, Block B, 144 Katherine Street, Sandown
1. Job Purpose and Role
The Manager: Legal Services and Member Discipline will be responsible for delivering comprehensive legal advisory support to the organisation, managing the member disciplinary process and overseeing
all legal matters relating to contracts, intellectual property, and legal risk.
This is a hands-on role for a detail-oriented, solutions-focused professional who can operate independently while collaborating closely with executive
management. The ideal candidate is a practical legal expert who thrives on translating laws, regulations, and standards into actionable business guidance.

commitment to ensuring legal integrity and operational excellence across the organisation.

2. Key responsibilities and duties
Legal Advisory and Support
Provide practical, high-quality internal legal advice to management and business units, including managing and resolving disputes through suitable legal remedies, coordinating enforcement actions, and collaborating with internal teams and
external counsel to safeguard the organisation’s rights.
Identify and communicate emerging legal risks and developments that may impact the organisation.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements that are both legally sound and business appropriate.
Maintain oversight of the organisation’s contract register and ensure effective contract management.
Prepare briefs and liaise with external attorneys on matters requiring specialist legal input.
Provide guidance on legal matters affecting the organisation’s operations and relationships with stakeholders.
Member Discipline
Administer and manage all member disciplinary matters in accordance with the organisation’s Member and Disciplinary Regulations.
Coordinate and convene disciplinary panels, ensuring that due process and procedural fairness are maintained.
Perform the secretariat function for disciplinary matters, including document preparation, minute taking, and communication of outcomes.
Maintain accurate records of all disciplinary proceedings and outcomes.
Provide legal support and advice internally as well as to disciplinary panels where required.
Intellectual Property (IP) Management
Manage and protect the organisation’s IP portfolio, including trademarks domains, and copyright registrations.
Oversee IP related matters such as renewals, licensing, royalties, and infringement issues.
Liaise with external service providers and attorneys on IP enforcement and registration activities.
General, Reporting and Administrative
Attend management meetings and contribute to key decisions as part of the management team.
Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team.
Attendance of functions and representation of the IoDSA.
Prepare management and board committee reports relevant to the legal and disciplinary functions.
Manage the legal budget and ensure cost-effective use of external legal resources.
Regular reviews and management of all applicable policies and procedures within department.
Assist executive management with additional adhoc tasks as and when required.
Reporting
Maintain and prepare monthly reports against key business plan targets
Capture and record member queries for reporting
Prepare forecasts and budgets

4. Experience, Training, Knowledge and Required Skills
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification (required).
Admission as an Attorney (preferred).
Minimum of 5–10 years of relevant post-qualification experience, ideally including exposure to corporate environment.
Proven experience in litigation management and dispute resolution (preferred).
Demonstrated skills and experience in the listed areas of responsibility.
Sound understanding of governance frameworks (e.g., King IV / King V) and organisational risk considerations.
External: Legal advisors, regulatory authorities, disciplinary chairs and panellists.
6. Working hours
Office hours are between 09h00 to 16h00, however, as the role at management level, working hours may extend outside of these normal working hours depending work demands.
