Recent events at SAA illustrate the fact that corporate governance has a "soft" side that is as important as the "hard" elements of policies, structures and processes.
"There is a widespread, fundamental misunderstanding of what corporate governance
actually is," argues Ansie Ramalho, CE of the Institute of Directors in Southern Africa. "Policies, structures and processes are just ways to position the company to achieve good governance, but trust is required to make corporate governance a living
reality that delivers benefits. And building trust requires good relationships."
