Mentoring Circles is a
group mentoring initiative facilitated by the IoDSA, for prospective and
experienced directors. The aims of these
3 hour sessions are to offer directors (the mentees) who are building their careers
to receive feedback and guidance from seasoned directors (the mentors). Mentors are selected based on the IoDSA mentor guidelines.
In 2015, the Mentoring Circles form part of the Director Development programme of the IoDSA. All
of the Mentoring Circles are linked to the foundational Principle 1.1 of the King III Code of Corporate
Governance: the board should provide effective leadership based on an ethical
The Mentoring Circles are
intended to develop the personal and social competencies included in the IoDSA Director
Competency Framework, namely:
- PC1: Act in a manner that demonstrates self-knowledge
- PC2: Manage self in a manner that contributes to the
activities of the board.
- SC1: Adapt to environmental needs
- SC2: Interact with fellow board members and management
in a manner that is beneficial to the company
