The programme is aimed at two types of business owners – the business owner that has established a small business that does not intend it to grow into a large company; and, the business owner that establishes a large business that is initially small. Understanding the core business of the company helps in determining the core competences required to establish and grow the business. And, in knowing this base, can integrate good business practices – and, inevitably good governance – into the already growing business practice.

Delegates attending this one day workshop will gain exposure to understanding the fundamentals of corporate governance, strategy development, the use of financial statements and the management of cash flows to ensure a sustainable future for their organization.

From a technical perspective this programme aims to teach SME entrepreneurs, owner managers, managing directors and other senior executives about how to develop other commercial fundamentals and, by so doing, integrate good business practice and, ultimately, good governance principles, into their growing business.

King Code of Governance principles (King III)
  • Principle 2.11 The board should act as the focal point for and custodian of corporate governance.
  • Principle 2.12: The board should ensure the integrity of the company’s integrated report.

Key focus areas

  • Identifying the core business of a company as well as the core skills to achieve these business objectives
  • Companies Act, King III and governance as it applies to SMEs’
  • Strategic simplicity (simple overview of the critical elements for a strategy)
  • Understanding Financial Statements, Business controls (working capital, Gross Margins, Expense to sales etc.) and CASH FLOWS.
  • Integration of topical strategies that can enhance the effectiveness of the business drivers such as the power of social media.
