IoDSA Blood Drive
may be aware of the recent pleas for blood donations from the South African
National Blood Services (SANBS) due to the critical shortage of blood supply.
SANBS has let us know that currently, the blood availability is less than 2
days and this results in major blood shortages and the impact on patients
waiting for transfusions is life threatening.
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, the IoDSA hasonce
againoffered the use of our facilities to SANBS in order to carry out
blood drives on 15 July and 4 November 2013.
As a member you are invited to visit the IoDSA’s training centre in Sandton to
participate in this very critical drive by making a blood donation.
(Unfortunately we do not have facilities in the regions to host these drives so
we encourage any regional members who are in the Gauteng area on this date to
participate if they are available)
Date: 15 July 2013
Venue: 144 Katherine Street, Grayston Ridge Office Park, Block B, 1st
floor, Sandown, Sandton
Thecriteria required to become a blood donor is that the potential donor
has to be:
-16 years and older
-weigh 50kgs and over
-lead a SAFE lifestyle
-must eat before donating
One is allowed to donate blood every two months. (EVERY 56 DAYS) and SANBS asks
for a commitment to donating regularly so that a "blood history” can be
established in order to use the donation.
For the blood donor clinic to be deemed successful, SANBS requires a minimum of
30 donations to be made on the day.
If you would like to make a donation on Monday, 15 July 2013, please RSVP below
as soon as possible.
We look forward to your response..
