Fellow Member

An applicant must be an active IoDSA member for a minimum of 5 years consecutively and in addition have at least ten 10 years experience as a director, company secretary, senior executive, partner, associate or senior manager, senior academic or the equivalent at two or more of the following:

  • A listed company
  • An unlisted company
  • A local, provincial or national Government entity whether incorporated or created by statute or
  • A director, or equivalent, of a non-profit organisation or
  • University or tertiary academic institution or
  • Professional practice such as firm of architects, lawyers, accountants.

An "active IoDSA member” will be interpreted to mean a member who has attended at least one IoDSA event or initiative a year for the duration of membership.

In addition, the Board should consider the applicant to have the appropriate experience and background which makes him/her eligible as a Fellow member. In exercising its judgment in this regard, the Board will consider that the category of Fellow membership is bestowed in order firstly, to acknowledge significant experience in executing governance duties and secondly, to create an opportunity for Fellows to contribute to IoDSA initiatives to promote governance.

Entry shall be by application and accompanied by a nomination from a current IoDSA member in accordance with the procedures as approved by the Board from time to time.


Procedures

Members wishing to apply to become a Fellow must submit an application and motivation in writing along with a one page CV and letter of nomination outlining their compliance to the above Fellow criteria.

Fellow applications will be considered by the IoDSA Board on a quarterly basis.


Entitlements

Fellows of the IoDSA, are entitled to use the designation F.Inst.D after their name for the duration of their Fellowship.

In addition to the prestige of Fellowship and existing membership benefits, Fellows will also have access to the benefits detailed below:

  • An exclusive IoDSA Fellowship card.
  • 20% discount on all IoDSA Events and Director Development Programmes


Requirements to maintain Fellowship status

Not allowing IoDSA membership to be suspended




Retired Member

  • An individual who has been a member for at least 5 consecutive years and is no longer active in business in any capacity and
  • Over 65 years of age.

Procedure

Members who meet the criteria for Retired membership wishing to be considered for this category must inform the IoDSA in writing.

Entitlements

Retired members of the IoDSA will receive an 80% discount on annual membership rates.

Note: Some members who meet the criteria may wish to continue contributing their subscriptions annually and as such not fall into the Retired Member category.





Life Member


An applicant must have been an active IoDSA member for a minimum of 30 years consecutively.

Life membership is conferred on a discretionary basis by the IoDSA board.


Procedures

Members who meet the criteria for Life membership wishing to be considered for this category must inform the IoDSA in writing.

Life membership will be reviewed by the IoDSA Board on an annual basis and members who are elected will receive recognition of their membership status through an IoDSA publication.


Entitlements

Life members of the IoDSA, in addition to existing member benefits, will receive complimentary lifetime membership of the IoDSA.

Note: Some members who meet the criteria may wish to continue contributing their subscriptions annually and as such will not fall into the Life Member category





Chartered Director South Africa (CD(SA))

This membership category is available in addition to the above categories.
