Not enough talent for SA's boards

The dearth of qualified company board members has created a situation in which former ANC treasurer Mathews Phosa and Bidvest financial director David Cleasby sit on more than 80 company boards each.

Jacobus Honibal sits on 86 boards, including Core Fitness Centres, Western Crown Properties and golf companies.

Research by credit bureau Inoxico shows that company directors in South Africa sit on far more boards than their overseas counterparts.

On average, board members of South Africa's 20 biggest companies also sit on 14 other boards.
