We are honoured to be hosting the following wine farms at the IoDSA Wine Festival:

After 26 years of professional experience as a winemaker in South Africa, as well as the South of France, the desire and dream for Nico to create his own wine increased.
In 1999 Nico and his wife Petra decided to start with their own wine making and so the first vintage of Mas Nicolas was vinified. Since 1999 their range of wines has grown. Besides Mas Nicolas, their flagship wine, several others have been added. These being, the Nicolas van der Merwe Syrah, the Nicolas van der Merwe Red and White Blend, the Nicolas van der Merwe Five to Nine, the Nicolas van der Merwe MCC, the Cape Elements as well as the Robert Alexander range.
Raats Family Wines are specialists in the crafting of exceptional wines from Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. It is their mission to consistently produce Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc of outstanding quality from South Africa and to establish these wines as international benchmarks. The Raats family lives for and dreams about these two varieties and passionately produces wines they believe are truly distinct from old vineyards in the Stellenbosch area east of Cape Town. They have earned a reputation internationally as a New World leader in the production of Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc.
How does a small Durbanville property running a flock of 50 sheep, 2 cows and a sheepdog become one of South Africa's most successful small wine cellars? This type of Cinderella fairy tale only gets written if a few very special ingredients get blended with a number of happy coincidences. So what was our Nitida recipe? First we found a piece of beautiful soil (just “to live on”), we also happened to really fancy drinking good wine. Maybe it helped to be inadvertently perfectly trained for the job of crafting a wine brand (Bernhard is a chemical engineer and Peta was in advertising). Now 25 years on, this family owned and run cellar is one of the most consistently awarded and loved boutique wine cellars in South Africa with a host of double gold, gold and silver medals, a few 5 star platters and countless awards and certificates, (many of which are on display in the cellar) including being named “Top Producer” at the 2009 Michelangelo International Wine Awards, no mean feat for a cellar with just 11 permanent staff members.
Through the variety of its terroir, the uniqueness of its geography, and the foundation of its vineyards on a pristine natural environment, Lomond Wine Estate produces superb single-vineyard wines from individual vineyard blocks. A cooler climate and more consistent temperatures lead to a later ripening of the grapes, producing wines which are exciting, complex and daring, but also crafted by our master winemaker Wim Truter to always be enjoyable and food-friendly.
Rhebokskloof Wine Estate, situated in the historic Paarl valley, is nestled between the granite hills of the Paarl Rock Mountains, creating a unique micro-climate. Experience true Winelands hospitality at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate. Taste the unique terroir of our secret valley from which springs our celebrated and internationally awarded wines. Let us take you on a journey of discovery with different interpretations of our signature varietals Shiraz and Chardonnay, lovingly crafted by visionary winemaker Rolanie Lotz. Experience the fusion of South African recipes and French culinary traditions by Chef Daniel George. Ride our singularly spectacular mountain bike trails or take a horseback ride. Or simply bring your family for a picnic or trail picnic and spend the day with us.
Topiary is a South African winery owned by two renowned French Vignerons. Philippe Colin became enchanted with Topiary’s 20 hectares of vineyards In August 2014 and along with business partner Serge Jaczynski purchased the farm. Philippe is the winemaking partner, a 4th generation Burgundian wine farmer Philippe makes some of the most acclaimed Chassagne Montrachet, Philippe is one of the guardians of the famous Colin-Deleger vineyard. Philippe won the coveted Decanter regional trophy in 2013 for the best white Burgundy. Serge Jaczynski was originally a sommelier, hailing from Southern France, Serge was head sommelier at the prestigious Hotel Carlton in Nice before striking out alone to become a wine agent and consultant sommelier. The stunning boutique cellar is located in the Wemmershoek Mountain‘s foothills, amongst the fynbos and fauna of Franschhoek Wetlands and placed around our manicured gardens are our topiary masterpieces.
La Couronne (The Crown) was a famed French warship of the French Navy built in 1636 by Cardinal de Richelieu. La Couronne was the first man of war built by the French themselves in accordance to Richelieu's plans to renew the French Navy, after a series of ships built by the Dutch. The construction was overseen by the famous carpenter Charles Morieur, from Dieppe. She was one of the most advanced vessels of her time. She was equipped with 68 heavy guns, 8 firing to the bow and 8 to the aft, an unusual feature until Dupuy de Lôme redesigned naval artillery. Dr JJ Le Roux was the last of the Le Roux brothers who farmed for 7 generations on La Couronne Farm, then known as Champagne Farm. La Couronne brags with three great wine ranges which include the Admiral’s Choice, Commander’s Selection and Sailors Selection.
Founded by Jeremy and Emma Borg, drawing inspiration from the African Wild Dog, “our own Painted Wolf pack is a community of talented individuals who bring the best available grapes, technical and practical skills to Painted wolf, allowing us to craft a range of delicious, authentic satisfying wines.” “Our winemaking adventures really began in 2005 with an eleventh hour phone call from a friend
saying she knew of someone with some grapes in excess of their requirements, would we like them? We just couldn’t say no! A quick rally round with friends found us space in the small cellar at Black Pearl wines, a few open fermenting bins, a couple of barrels and off we went with our small basket press and lots of enthusiasm. We hand bottled and corked our first thousand bottles of Borg Family
Shiraz in the cellar… by hand!” Their aim is to create expressive, bold, fruit driven wines which reflect the rich terroirs of South Africa. They are avid fans of the proudly South African grape varietals Pinotage and Chenin Blanc, which are at the heart of their range of wines.
