As a non-profit organisation, the IoDSA assists other non-profit organisations and charities. The IoDSA offers time, expertise, resources and exposure to our member base so should members wish to they can also offer assistance to these charities.

Stop Hunger Now

The IoDSA team took part in packing food parcels for the Stop Hunger Now initiative in December 2011. A total of 5400 food parcels were packed to distribute to under priviledged schools in the area.

Arbor Week - Tree in a Tube

In an attempt to conserve our environment IoDSA Staff each received a Tree in a Tube to grow on their desks for a few weeks.

Staff then planted these trees around the office park during Arbor week.

SANBS

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, the IoDSA has offered the use of our facilities to the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) in order for them to carry out a blood drive in December 2011.

Members and the surrounding office blocks were invited to visit the IoDSA’s training centre to participate in this very critical drive by making a blood donation.

For the blood donor clinic to be deemed successful SANBS required a minimum of 30 donors and our IoDSA staff, members and neighbours made the day a success!

Continuing its commitment to corporate social investment (CSI) locally, The Institute of Directors in Southern Africa (IoDSA), the country’s corporate governance custodian, recently donated desktops to the Molteno Institute of Language and Literacy’s training facility in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

Introduction to Generally Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP)Section 216 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa introduced generally recognised accounting practice for the public sector and the Accounting Standards Board (ASB) issues Standards of GRAP in accordance with national legislation.  But what is GRAP? Who must apply it? What is the impact on the financial statements?  This 1-day workshop provides the participant with a high level overview of GRAP, with focus on certain “contentious” concepts and standards.

The workshop covers:

• The GRAP financial reporting framework, implementation dates and applicable entities
• High level review of GRAP standards and IGRAPS
• Application of ASB directives and guidelines
• Principles set out in the ASB FAQ’s
